Our Book Journey
Kleo and I have been on some incredible adventures since we became a duo in 2022. During this time a part of me has always been thinking about how I could share those adventures.
If you’ve been following me from the start you will have seen our instagram posts and stories as we travelled eastern Europe. Or perhaps you’ve only found us recently and seen the stories and picture diaries that have been posted to our website. It’s quite a bit of content and a exciting display of our adventures.
And yet I still felt there was something more. Travelling with Kleo always felt like it gave a little bit of magic to my day, and it certainly gave joy to fellow travellers and locals that we met along the way. It seemed like there was another story to tell or at least another way to tell the story.
An idea slowly sifted around in my mind and grew through conversation with friends I had met along the journey. Until one day in September 2022 sitting in Novi Sad, Serbia I took the time to write. After writing fervently for a while I produced the first darft of “Kleo the Kereru meets Cohen the Kiwi”.
At that point I had no I dea where this would go.
Did I want to publish it? Yes. Did I know how I would do it? No.
Did I want vibrant artwork? Yes. Did I believe I had the ability to do that? No, absolutely not and the idea sketches I have done attest to that.
Did I believe in myself enough to give it a go and see what happens? Absolutely.
While travelling through Northern Greece in November 2022 I was connected over Whatsapp with the wonderful Kari Kaze. We talked about the idea and Kari took some time to sketch some ideas. I fell in love with the art style and she has now been bringing the story to life in watercolour.

As I settled into Brisbane I brought my good friend Jodi Walker on board to bring her graphic design skills to the table and put the book togther and to add another creative eye to the whole project.
During the months since we have slowly chipped away at the project getting a little step closer everyday. Being my first foray into publishing I underestimated the work it would take but am excited about the progress being made. In a few short months (maybe even sooner) we’ll be getting the first copies of “Kleo the Kereru meets Cohen the Kiwi” into the hands of readers.
Thanks for being here with us on this journey and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the book when you get it.

P.S. If you really want to see the proof I needed an artist look no further.
