A Birthday

It’s 2:10 am in the morning, after an excellent evening of fun, questions, and perhaps more than a few drinks. We are now into week three of camp in Paltinis and under new management providing an array of fresh and perhaps unexpected changes. It will take a few days to adjust to the fresh energy brought by our new arrivals.

The evening has come to a close and Alex’s 23rd celebrations saw a cake with a fountain of fire and good company.

Sitting now in bed ready to sleep the wondering begins about what the future might hold. It may not be my birthday but being in space with another who moves a year forward does reopen those questions many of us have.

  • What have I accomplished
  • What might come next
  • Who is important in my life
  • What is it that I want the next year to be

It’s been almost a year since I made the decision to uproot my life in New Zealand and fly halfway round the world to start a new adventure. The plans for the adventure have changed plentiful times since that first decision but despite that I still sit (or lie) in utter awe of what it is I have done in just a few short months. While there may be some growing plans for the near future which will see a very different direction to my expectations; I remain continually excited for the road ahead.

It is shared with good people, good hearts, good fun, and good ideas. So I know that even if I cannot yet answer all the questions that a birthday might bring; what I do know is that I would not give up this opportunity and this adventure for anything.

The future will always have time for me to ‘make a life’ and ‘settle down,’ as it were, if that is indeed what I want. But Tomorrow and today are for chasing the wind down quiet roads, discovering what the willows whisper in their dance. Life’s beauty lies in the adventure, not just the destination.

Sleep well and dream, for that is what makes the world such a beautiful place.
